Broken Darling; The music of Mark Bodino

Happy (almost) Halloween everyone! This new guest blog isn’t related to this spooky holiday but it is my favorite so just wanted to start off with that.  Anyway, as many of you know, aside from painting and photography I also do freelance design and illustration work for clients across the US (& in the UK) and have recently completed 2 CD covers for my client & friend, Mark Bodino.  He’s an amazing musician and excellent guitar player so I invited him to tell us a bit about his latest project, Broken Darling.  Below is a bit about this as well as his bio.  You can find out more about his music and order it via: www.bodino.com

Broken Darling consists of 2 guitars, a male and female vocalist, bass, drums and organ. The band’s musical vocal versatility gives them a broad range of styles from folk rock to hard rock to ballads. From track to track the instrumentation is searing, light and expressive, tasteful and melodic. The best description their overall sound may be a melding of the past – David Gilmore, Neil Young, Chris Isaak and Bob Dylan – with the added “pop texture” of the present. “We try to bring the listener to another place, as if leading them down a dark corridor or toward something typically peripheral or unveiled”. Whether fragmented or continuous, lyrics are full of imagery and color, influencing the listener beyond the medium of just sound. Performances have been well received in a variety of settings.

BIO: Mark Bodino began playing guitar at age 13 and piano at age 18. He also noticed he enjoyed the expressiveness of singing at age 18. Since that time he has described his love for music as an obsession. His performances have been well received in a variety of settings; ranging from pubs, bookstores, and coffee houses throughout Manhattan, New Jersey, and recently Philadelphia; to more formal settings like weddings and receptions for opening art exhibits. Mark is able to perform as solo artist or as a group. Mark has also completed a CD including all solo classical guitar works, arranging most of the pieces. Mark has appeared on Channel 12’s “Jersey Talking” as well as WOR’s nationally syndicated Joey Reynold’s Show. His music has also been featured on Billy Zero’s “Artist to Watch” internet program, syndicated through Washington DC.
